A chimney can truly add style and comfort to your house, making it more
appealing to guests, and even for your romantic escapades. However, looking
after wood burning fireplaces is
quite difficult, especially if you are not a chimney trained specialist. Here
are some useful tips for those wanting to purchase or already purchased a
wood-based fireplace:
·
Don’t burn anything but wood-based products. As it is
stated on your purchase, the chimney acquired uses wood and wood-based products
to burn. Do not burn plastic, particle boards, painted wood, household garbage,
plywood, or synthetic materials because they are extremely toxic to the
environment and to your health as well. Most synthetic materials and plastic
emanate a strong burning smell which can easily affect your health. Moreover,
these chemicals will damage your fireplace as well.
·
Split your firewood. Cutting your own wood may be a
difficult task, thus it would be best to leave it to the pros. However, if you
truly most show your alpha male (or female) skills, make sure you split your
firewood and do not bring an entire tree to burn. Un-split wood dries extremely
slow, making it harder to burn and release heat. Also, you may want to loosen
the stacks on your wood in order to promote air circulation.
·
Don’t put on
too much wood inside the firebox. Just like when preparing the perfect
barbeque, stuffing inside the firebox too much wood will just not do the trick.
This way it will take much longer for the heat to spread.
